SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — On Super Tuesday, March 5, 2024, California voted in the Presidential Primary Election. San Diego County had the opportunity to vote in multiple Congressional districts that included part of the county. Voters will select the top two candidates for each of the open districts to move on to the November General Election on November 5, 2024.
CA 48th Congressional District | Election Results
District 48 includes east and northern San Diego County as well as Temecula in Riverside County.
CA 49th Congressional District | Election Results
District 49 includes north coastal San Diego County as southeast Orange County.
CA 50th Congressional District | Election Results
District 50 includes mid-coastal and northeastern parts of San Diego County.
CA 51st Congressional District | Election Results
District 51 includes eastern San Diego County including La Mesa, Spring Valley and El Cajon.
CA 52nd Congressional District | Election Results
District 52 includes southwestern San Diego County including National City, Chula Vista and parts of Imperial Beach.
San Diego County's five House members had early leads Wednesday following Tuesday's primary election.
In the 48th District race, Rep. Darrell Issa, seeking his 12th term, took a commanding lead among the six candidates.
The field also consists of four Democrats and one candidate with no party preference. The 48th District covers a wide swath of North and East San Diego County, and a portion of Riverside County.
In the 49th District race, Rep. Mike Levin took the early lead. Straddling San Diego and Orange counties, the 49th District race has drawn five candidates.
The 50th District race, which covers coastal San Diego as well as inland portions of the county extending up into Escondido and San Marcos, has drawn four candidates -- Rep. Scott Peters, D-San Diego, took the early lead over a second Democrat and two Republicans.
In the 51st Congressional District, Rep. Sara Jacobs, D-San Diego took the lead over El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells, a Republican in second place. In the 51st District, which covers central San Diego and parts of East County, Jacobs is seeking a third term.
Jacobs says combating the high cost of living, expanding childcare availability and increasing the supply of affordable housing are among her priorities.
Wells describes himself as a "vocal critic of the Housing First and Defund the Police movements" in his campaign materials and says he has helped El Cajon maintain a balanced budget and been "actively engaging in advocacy for conservative causes."
In the 52nd Congressional District, which covers southern San Diego County, Rep. Juan Vargas, D-San Diego, had a commanding early lead. Vargas has represented the region in the state Assembly and Senate, and Congress dating back to 2000.
