In the final week of the presidential campaign, the race for president remains neck and neck. The Harris and Trump campaigns are focusing their efforts on seven battleground states, with planned visits up until the very end.
CBS News just unveiled a new poll showing the race is as close as ever.
“Nationally, we have a plus one Harris, but in the battleground, of course Georgia being one, it is dead even," said Anthony Salvanto, Director of Elections and Surveys for CBS News.
Salvanto said one key finding in their poll has to do with the gender gap, which is as large as we've seen since polling began.
"More women going for Harris, more men going for Trump. We asked people about efforts to promote gender equality in the United States. For those who believe those efforts have been going too far of late, look how overwhelmingly they are voting for Donald Trump. That's a lot of men who say that, but for those who say that gender equality efforts haven't gone far enough, and there's more women who say that they are overwhelmingly voting for Kamala Harris. That's one of the larger forces behind that gender gap. The other one is the way that the campaigns may be reinforcing this as well. Most women tell us they think the Trump campaign is paying too little attention to the concerns of women. If I show you the views of men there, it's rather the opposite. A majority of men saying the Harris campaign isn't paying enough attention to the concerns of men."
Salvanto said the election will be decided by voter turnout, adding every vote really does count.
"With so few undecided voters, our polling shows that it comes down to people who may decide to vote, may decide not to vote, turnout is going to be key. That's what I mean by really tight race," said Salvanto.
