SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and a flash flood watch continues Saturday for inland San Diego County and other Southern California mountains and deserts, the National Weather Service reported.

"There's a chance of strong thunderstorms Saturday in both counties mostly in the mountains and deserts with possible, localized flooding in and near thunderstorms," said weather forecaster Mike Webster.

Webster said monsoonal moisture originating in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico was causing extremely humid conditions which could feed slow-moving thunderstorms with enough moisture to cause very large rainfall amounts and flash flooding.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for Coachella Valley and the mountains and deserts of Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, NWS reported.

Webster said monsoonal weather conditions in the region are likely to continue.

"There hasn't been strong enough winds just yet to dry that out," Webster said. "The humidity is going to remain on and off throughout the next couple weeks with a chance of thunderstorm formation over the mountains and deserts of San Diego and Riverside counties."
