SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 10-acre brush fire prompted the evacuation of about 200 people near Lake Hodges and Interstate 15 in Rancho Bernardo, authorities said.
The blaze broke out shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday near the southbound lanes of I-15 in a triangle-shaped area of brush between West Bernardo Drive, the on-ramp to southbound I-15 and an apartment complex, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.
West Bernardo Drive near Pomerado Road and the West Bernardo Drive off-ramp from southbound I-15 were shut down while crews dealt with the fire.
Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, all roads were reopened, according to the California Highway Patrol.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Rick Ballard said, "about 200 people were evacuated from dwellings near the fire including a nearby senior living facility." The residents were allowed to return home a few hours later.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
