SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) – The Rancho Coastal Humane Society on Friday welcomed nearly two dozen dogs from Arkansas in need of a better home.
Twenty dogs arrived by plane in San Diego from a shelter in Arkansas with dangerous security issues.
“We have some adult dogs. We have a lot of puppies. They had some security cameras people stole. They would go in and take dogs and put them loose into a larger area and take one dog and put it into a kennel with another dog and only with enough food for one,” said John Van Zante, with The Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
According to rescuers, the goal was to incite dog fights. “One of the staff members went to do a drop in and must have gotten there just after the guys because the dogs were out and were squaring off but had not started fighting yet,” said Van Zante.
By clearing space in the Arkansas shelter, rescuers hope to alleviate some of the stress dealing with security concerns.
“By taking them in here, we created more space for the dogs there that now need extra treatment,” said Van Zante.
All 20 dogs are expected to go up for adoption soon.
