OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - A teenage girl, her six-year-old brother and a dog escaped a burning home in Oceanside early Wednesday morning.
Authorities say there were home alone and the grandfather and father arrived as crews showed up to fight the fire shortly after 4:00 a.m. in the 2900 block of
. They battled heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of a duplex condo.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced family and Chihuahua find temporary shelter.
Investigators are trying to determine if the cause of the fire was electrical or another type of problem.
A family friend says according to the young boy "a candle was lit by his Xbox." That information has yet to be confirmed by authorities.
