OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A ruptured pipeline flooded several rooms at the Salvation Army's Oceanside headquarters Thursday before city crews were able to halt the overflow.
The broken six-inch-diameter conduit began inundating the front of the complex in the 3900 block of Lake Boulevard about 10 a.m., said Dave Preston, a pastor and administrator for the international Christian charity and church. Municipal utility personnel got the problem under control within 40 minutes, he said.
The pipe failure left three rooms -- a library, a prayer space and a storage area for the agency's senior nutrition program -- with flooding damage, according to Preston. No injuries were reported.
Repairs to the water line, which supplies the complex's fire sprinklers, and a front walkway were expected to cost about $30,000, Preston said.
Due to the temporary loss of the flame-suppression equipment, the Oceanside Fire Department directed the Salvation Army to conduct and document a fire watch at the site every hour until the system is fixed.
The mishap forced the agency to cancel a fall festival scheduled for Friday at the location.
