SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Thousands of needy San Diegans were able to celebrate Christmas with a hot meal, thanks to the Salvation Army.
Volunteers in two locations served up a turkey dinner with all the trimmings along with some holiday cheer.
Outside Golden Hall, people lined up early for a Christmas meal Wednesday. Inside there was music, which helped entertain everyone, while the more than 300 volunteers helped families to their seats, before helping them to 800 pounds of turkey along with mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie.
Cathy Miranda and her granddaughter Brianna were some of the 2,000 people the Salvation Army prepared for. It was their first year at the Christmas dinner and they say it was the biggest gift they could have been given.
At five dollars a plate, the Salvation Army relies on donations for the Christmas dinner in all the years they've put it together in San Diego.
