SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Blood Bank put out a call Tuesday for donors to help replenish blood sent to the Pacific Northwest in the wake of the Umpqua Community College shooting massacre in Roseburg, Oregon.

After a gunman went on a shooting rampage last Thursday on the campus, killing nine people and injuring nine others before killing himself, BloodWorks Northwest of Tacoma, Washington, called other blood banks for help.

Officials at the San Diego facility, which responded within 24 hours, said the need for blood among the nine wounded survivors is "potentially ongoing," increasing the need for donations.

Prospective donors can make appointments online at SanDiegoBloodBank.org or by calling (800) 469-7322.
