San Diego company hits big time with help from Coca-Cola

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A San Diego-based beverage company has received a major boost from Coca-Cola.

Suja announced Wednesday that it had sold minority stakes to the Coca-Cola Company, which will now distribute its organic juices and smoothies, according to a Reuters report.

Suja, which means long, beautiful life, was founded by four San Diegans who started making the juice in a home kitchen and it was then that they decided they wanted more people to have access to their product.

However, as a small company, the owners discovered the challenge in having far-reaching distribution at a reasonable price. Enter Coca-Cola. Suja's new relationship with the soft drink company will benefit them in several key ways. According to their website, the company will increase the number of locations their product can be found by about 50 percent over the next year. A new manufacturing plant is slated to be built in San Diego. And finally, the ability to purchase raw materials at lower costs, should equate to the lowest possible price for the public.

Suja is now the fastest growing organic, cold-pressured and Non-GMO beverage company in the United States, offerings three handcrafted lines of juice: Suja Classic, Suja Elements and Suja Essentials.

Forbes has also named Suja the second most promising company in America.
