SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A San Diego woman accused of plotting to shoot her biological son's adoptive parents in Kansas faces murder charges.
Kisha Schaberg, 35, is being held in the Sedgwick County jail in Wichita Kansas facing first-degree murder, attempted murder, robbery and burglary charges.
"I will never believe that she did anything unless she would personally tell me that she did. I would never in this lifetime believe it. Never," said a Schaberg friend.
Schaberg's biological son, Anthony Bluml, 18, and two of his classmates who are also 18 face the same charges.
Roger and Melissa Bluml were shot in their car on their rural property in Valley Center, KS, Friday night. Melissa died on Saturday and Roger is in critical condition.
When Schaberg's friend received a concerning text on Sunday, she was worried about the mother.
"She texted me on Sunday that some bad stuff had happened, that is was real but it was going to be OK," said the friend.
She did not want to be identified but said she knew Schaberg when she lived in Columbia, MO.
"I'll never believe it, unless she tells me she did it. Never. I won't ever believe it," said the friend.
She said on Monday, the day after the text and three days after the shootings, Schaberg called her cell phone.
"She said that her son's mom and dad had been shot," said the friend.
The woman said she knew Schaberg from when she lived in Columbia, MO and thought she was a great friend.
"She was one of the best girls, she is one of the most honest people," said the friend.
When the woman spoke to Schaberg on Monday she said the mother did not sound like she would be implicated in a murder and attempted murder of her biological son's adoptive parents.
"She didn't sound like she was worried about anything; she was just like, 'something real bad happened.'"
The conversation was cut short when Schaberg said she needed to take Bluml to the morgue.
"I said, 'what's going on? Did they find out who did it?' And she said, ‘no not yet. I don't think,'" said the woman recalling the conversation with Schaberg.
CBS News 8 found Schabger's resume online showing, before she moved to San Diego, she worked and lived in Missouri as a caregiver and at a convenience store.
Friends said Schaberg had a child with another man who has now passed from cancer in Missouri.
About three years ago she moved to San Diego to live with her girlfriend. Friends said they broke up three weeks ago and that's when Schaberg moved to Kansas.
Her Facebook page that lists her name as "Kisha Reyes (Denise)" showing she posted a picture of Bluml and her on November 3rd that said, "bond that can't be broken."
"Maybe she was in the wrong place at the wrong time," said the friend.
CBS News 8 spoke to the girlfriend in San Diego. She agreed to speak to us at work, but her managers would not allow it.
Schaberg contacted her from jail but details of that conversation were not available.
The suspects are being held without a bond. A court date has not been set.
