SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Sharp Mary Birch Hospital officially opened its newly renovated neo-natal intensive care unit Friday.
The unit now has 84 beds, making it the largest NICU in San Diego County. It also features private rooms and a specialized area to take care of babies who are at risk for neurologic damage.
The hospital also added a training program for families so they're comfortable taking their babies home.
"They educate you on the stuff so you know what's going on and they tell you every step of the way, and now they're teaching us how to deal with having such little preemies," Robyn Dodd, mother of preemie twins said.
The expansion project cost $30 million.
