Sheriff's dept. warns Encinitas residents of imposter utility worker

The Sheriff's Department warned coastal residents Tuesday about a man who recently impersonated a utility worker in a failed bid to gain access to someone's home.

ENCINITAS (CNS) - The Sheriff's Department warned coastal residents Tuesday about a man who recently impersonated a utility worker in a failed bid to gain access to someone's home.

The incident occurred in the area of Leucadia, just west of Interstate 15, the morning of Dec. 6, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The man represented himself as a San Dieguito Water Utility worker and said he needed to get inside someone's home to test the water pressure. The resident asked the man for official identification and the man went to his car, then drove off.

"According to the San Dieguito Water District, their staff will always have identification and will never ask to enter your home," according to a sheriff's department bulletin. "All city and government employees will have official identification. If you are ever in doubt, do not open the door or allow anyone to enter your home. Call a deputy sheriff to respond and

investigate suspicious circumstances or people."

Concerned residents can contact the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200.
