The teen told police it was meant to be a joke -- but no one is laughing.
The principal at Eastlake High School says they are taking every precaution possible after the so-called prank was made on Twitter. Meantime, it's what everyone on campus is talking about.
"Right now I feel like it's not a prank - but if it is a prank - he should get in trouble for doing that because that's really messed up," student, Brian Anderson said.
Chula Vista police greeted students at the front entrance this morning as classes started around 7 a.m. They also parked their cruisers by the main street on Eastlake Parkway.
In a statement on the school's website, Principal Maria Esther Lizarraga said school officials were alerted to the threat involving a student on Saturday and had since been working with police. Authorities have launched an investigation and contacted the student's family.
"At Eastlake High School, we take safety and security of our students very seriously and we assure you that we will do all we can to maintain a safe and secure campus," Lizarraga said.
She added that a school resource officer from the Chula Vista Police Department would be at Eastlake High School Monday along with additional security personnel.
Chula Vista police Lt. Don Redmond told U-T San Diego that there was no indication the 14-year-old boy would have carried out the threat to "shoot up a school." The student responsible for the threat was asked not to attend classes Monday.
However, one concerned parent says she walked into the front entrance and didn't see any officers after 8 a.m.
