SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Sleep Train is teaming up with promises to kids and other local nonprofits to give back to local foster children.

The mattress retailer bought 500 of its employees from throughout the state to San Diego Thursday to volunteer in its annual Sleep Train Community Day event.

The employees assisted with projects including putting together kits for foster children attending summer camp where they are reunited with siblings.

"It's our company culture. Our culture believes in helping the community and giving back. It's part of what our foundation of our company is. They just love getting out and doing this," Sleep Train CEO Dale Carlsen said.

This was Sleep Train's second annual Community Day event.
