SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A brief pursuit around City Heights ended in a crash and the driver's arrest Tuesday morning, but the search for a second suspect prompted a brief lockdown at a nearby school and caused transit delays in the area.

Someone called police shortly after 7 a.m. after an occupant of a white car waved a gun in the vicinity of 37th Street and Orange Avenue, San Diego police Officer Humberto Hernandez said. Officers spotted the car nearby and a chase ensued.

They temporarily lost sight of the car on Fairmount Avenue. But the car then collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Fairmount and El Cajon Boulevard, according to the officer.

Both suspects ran from the wreckage, but one was taken into custody a short time later, Hernandez said, adding that the second suspect was last seen running south in a nearby alley.

Hoover High School was briefly placed under lockdown as the search for the suspect continued. The police activity also prompted the Metropolitan Transit System to skip bus stops at El Cajon Boulevard and 43rd Street and at El Cajon Boulevard and Fairmont Avenue.
