Suspect is from prominent well-known family

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – CBS News 8 is learning more about Jack Doshay and his family. His father Glenn, is a minority owner of the San Diego Padres and the entire family is philanthropic.

In fact, we did a story on Jack when he was in seventh grade and donated the $2,000 he received at his bar mitzvah to the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

YouTube video from 2008 shows Jack Doshay, at age 15, and his older brother Harry talking about their parents' commitment to their family and community. The video was shown by the San Diego Jewish Academy to honor Glenn and Karen Doshay for their involvement in the school and countless charities, most of which involved children, foster kids and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Now, the Doshay family name is in the spotlight again.

And while those who know the family tell me their hearts are heavy for what the Doshay family must be going through right now, parents at the Skyline Elementary School, where the 22-year old is accused of trying to kidnap a seven-year-old girl shortly after the school day ended last week, tell me they are feeling relief.

Investigators say Doshay was living with his parents in Fairbanks Ranch, which is an affluent community they've called home for more than two decades, after moving here from the East Coast.

A successful investment analyst and portfolio manager, Glenn Doshay is currently a minority owner of the San Diego Padres. He used to coach baseball and basketball at his sons' school.

As for Jack Doshay's future, if found guilty, some parents wonder what his punishment will be.

Paul Pfingst, a high profile defense attorney and former district attorney, is representing Jack Doshay.

I reached out to the Padres, but they had no comment out of respect for the family. I also tried to contact the San Diego Jewish Academy, which is on break right now, and have not heard back.
