SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - Homicide investigators and a SWAT team were sent to Mira Mesa Tuesday in connection with the death of a young man who turned up at Sharp Memorial Hospital with what was proved to be a fatal gunshot wound.
Employees at the hospital on Frost Street in the Birdland area alerted police shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police. About a half-hour earlier, gunfire had been reported in a residential area near Camino Ruiz Neighborhood Park.
Officers searched overnight for the shooter in and around the 8500 block of Menkar Road, near Harlow Terrace.
Area residents were asked to remain in their homes until late morning, when the shelter-in-place directive was lifted, SDPD public-affairs Sgt. Lisa McKean said.
"It made things a little more interesting. I was worried I wasn't going to be able to catch my flight," Susan Schock, Neighbor said.
There were no reports of arrests in the case as of 11 a.m., the sergeant said.
