MIRAMAR (CBS 8) - The hot weather didn't keep people from coming out to the Miramar Air Show Saturday. Thousands of people sweat it out to catch a glimpse of the high flying fun.
The show made a triumphant return to San Diego after skipping last year's performance.
"Very very hot," said Navy veteran Barry Newman.
"It feels like when you open an oven after baking a cake," said another man in the crowd.
Some even crowded underneath the equipment on display to escape the sweltering heat.
“You just drink lots of water slushes and adult beverages and you're fine,” said Cindy Tanis.
But despite the sun's rays beating down, thousands packed the Miramar Air Show for day two -- the busiest of the weekend. As many as 700,000 people are expected over all three days.
Mike Finch has been coming to the show since he was a child and now brings his kids.
“Last year it not being here was a disappointment but I'm glad it's back,” he said.
“Every opportunity that we can allow the community to come on our base, is a great opportunity they can interact with our Marines,” said First Lt. Gabriel Adibe.
Something new this year is the F-35, a state-of-the-art assault aircraft. It's one of the military's newest and most technologically advanced weapons.
"I love seeing the variety of planes and helicopters and other tactics keeping us safe. We've got all this on our team defending our country. I'm thankful for our troops that take care of us," said Tanis.
