SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Friday released the name of a 62-year-old tourist who died in an apparent accidental fall while staying with her husband at a Mission Bay hotel.
Gale Yonai of Montebello left the couple's rented room at Paradise Point Resort and Spa to smoke while her spouse was napping Thursday evening, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.
When the man awoke about 11:30 p.m. and could not find Yonai, he notified hotel security officers and went out with them to search for her. They found her face-down in a nearby pond, unconscious and unresponsive. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
It appeared that Yonai had slipped, fallen and hit her head on a rock next to the scenic pool, police said.
An autopsy was pending.
