SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man suspected of being intoxicated injured a responding police officer Friday in Grant Hill, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police were called to 30th and Market Street shortly after 2 p.m., responding to reports of an intoxicated man.

Officers attempted to confront him, but he began fighting them. One officer sustained minor injuries, police said.

The suspect was identified by CBS8 as Alejandro Ayale.

Ayale, who was bit by a police dog, was taken to a hospital wearing a spit-guard mask, CBS8 reported.

Shortly after officers arrived, a crowd of about 30 people began forming in front of the House of Metamorphosis, a drug and alcohol treatment center at 2970 Market St., police said.

Some in the crowd began yelling at the officers, while a man in his late 20s began throwing rocks and was arrested, police said.

Police credited House of Metamorphosis staff for their assistance in calming the crowd.
