LA JOLLA (CNS) - UC San Diego officials and students Wednesday will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the school's main library, named for late-children's book author Dr. Seuss and his widow.
The eight-story building in the center of campus was renamed in 1995 to honor the many donations to UCSD by Ted and Audrey Geisel.
The Geisel Library's unique architecture has spawned numerous rumors over the years that it has appeared in movies ranging from the Star Trek series to a spaceship in "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes," leading the school to create an "Urban Legends" page on the library's Web site.
According to the school, parts of the Killer Tomatoes series of films were actually was shot at other locations on the sprawling coastal campus, and the library's exterior was used as a research laboratory in the third movie.
It never appeared in a Star Trek flick, the school said.
The library was shown in San Diego-based television programs "Simon & Simon," "Veronica Mars" and "John From Cincinnati."
The celebration will include speakers, birthday cake and music.
