SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Horses that were apart of the Valitar show will soon go up for auction.
Proceeds of the auction will be used to pay the show's performers and vendors, who didn't get paid when the show suddenly closed last November.
Most people assumed the Valitar mess was resolved and a thing of the past, but six of the show's horses are still in still in limbo and being held in Lakeside.
An online auction has been set up to help.
"The biggest thing is that these horses are not lost, and left out throughout this disaster," said Linda Holst, Saving Horses Incorporated.
Valitar, the big tent production in Del Mar that was billed as a "Cirque du Soleil" with horses, folded last November in dramatic fashion after only five performances.
The owners of Valitar filed for bankruptcy, stranding dozens of horses and performers.
Now, 10 months later, six horses from the show are up for auction, including Alejandro -- an andalusian stallion valued at $25,000, with a current bid of only $750.
Also up for auction is a gelding named Cutty, valued at $12,000, with a current bid of $110.
A non-profit horse rescue organization, that is working closely with former Valitar performers called Saving Horses Inc., is asking the public to donate money to help them buy the horses and secure a safe future for the animals.
"These poor animals have been stuck in the bankruptcy court out in Lakeside," Holst said. "We have not been able to work with them or do anything for them, so this is how we right that wrong."
The public auction will be held on Tuesday in Lakeside but you can either bid on the horses or donate money online now.
