LA MESA (CNS) - A water main broke beneath a La Mesa roadway Sunday, city officials said.
The water main break was reported shortly after 1 p.m. in the 6300 block of Southern Road near Dixie Drive, according to city officials and police. Portions of the street were later blocked off, but city officials said residents could generally get in and out of their homes.
La Mesa police officers were assisting with traffic control, police said.
Helix Water District personnel said this afternoon, San Diego Gas & Electric had been requested to mark off pipes before the water could be shut off on Southern Road from Blanchard Road to the La Mesa-El Cajon border, according to city officials.
City officials said that once the water was turned off, they expected a six-hour delay and service to be restored sometime after 10 p.m.
