SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The predictions are pretty dire, with some forecasters saying this winter's El Nino could be a Godzilla. San Diegans are being urged to get ready.
This potentially record-breaking El Nino could mean, on average, 83 percent more precipitation this year than past years. Noticeable, not only thru torrential rainfall, but flooding and mudslides as well.
At a packed forum on, 'How Best to Prepare for El Nino', held Thursday night at San Diego State University, Congresswoman Susan Davis said San Diego county's past experiences with wildfires have given San Diegans and its leaders, on all levels, a leg-up.
"We've had some rehearsal time here, not just with El Nino, but with other major disasters that occur in our region and we learn from each one of them," Congresswoman Davis said.

One of the best ways to prep, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is to look into purchasing flood insurance.
"You might not need to purchase flood insurance, but it's always a good idea to do so and have that be part of your emergency kit," FEMA Spokesperson said.
A possible upside of this wild weather putting a dent, however small, is our region's dire need for water.

However, forecasters say it can't really erase the drought because we have been in that for so many years, but it can really help.
