Padres hoping to hit it out of the park with Petco Park renovations

The Padres are investing $7 million in upgrades to the historic Western Metal Building, promising enhanced fan experiences for the upcoming season

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres have begun construction on a $7 million renovation project for the Western Metal Supply Company Building at Petco Park, aiming to enhance the fan experience while preserving the structure's historic exterior.

What you should know

The 114-year-old building, a dedicated historical landmark since 1978, is set to receive significant interior upgrades across multiple levels. Padres fan Andy McQueen is one of many Friar faithful who think Petco Park still looks great after 20 years.  "I love it. It's a great ballpark. It's one of the best in the country." But the team wants to keep up with maintenance and offer fans new experiences.

Key improvements include:

  • An expanded team store on the ground floor, adding over 1,000 square feet for more displays and checkout counters.
  • Upgrades to the Sony Entertainment suite on the field level, featuring more seating and an expanded deck.
  • A fully renovated rooftop with a 4,000 square foot raised deck, offering improved field views and premium lounge seating.
  • Enhancements to the Budweiser Loft, including a renovated bar, games, new furniture, and a grand staircase providing direct rooftop access.
  • The introduction of the Foul Pole suite, a luxury space accommodating groups of 20 or more.

While some areas will be accessible to all ticketholders, others will be reserved for season ticket holders and suite owners.

Construction is currently underway near Tony Gwynn Drive and L Street, causing some traffic disruptions. However, crews are working to complete the renovations by March 27th, in time for the Padres' home opener against the Atlanta Braves.
