Normally, there wouldn’t be any reason for San Diego Padres fans to be celebrating at Petco Park on a night in November, but Saturday was a special occasion. For fans of the team’s classic brown and gold colors, the wait is over, the team has unveiled their “new” look.
“The new colors are definitely creating excitement with the Friar Faithful in San Diego,” the team said.
The team held a special event Saturday night to show off the new uniforms which they will start using in 2020. First baseman Eric Hosmer, third baseman Manny Machado and shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. modeled the new uniforms for the crowd.
“Brown is back for your San Diego Padres,” the announcer boomed as the players came on stage.
Machado said the fresh colors represent a fresh start for the team.
“It’s a new journey for us – new manager, new team,” he said.
The players hope the color change will correlate with the play on the field.
“The way everyone is looking at it, is we can turn the page of those tough times,” Hosmer said. “We’re trying to start a new wave – a new culture – and the brown really represents the beginning of all that.”
The Padres followed up the unveiling with another on Sunday giving fans their first look at the camouflage jerseys they will be wearing in 2020.
