OCEANSIDE, Calif. — San Diego was previously home to an NBA franchise from 1978 to 1984 until the San Diego Clippers headed north to become the LA Clippers. Now the Clippers are coming back!
This time though, it is through the relocation of their G League affiliate to Oceanside rebranded as the San Diego Clippers. The team will play in the new Frontwave Arena starting in the 2024/2025 season.
The team announced Monday that the G League team would relocate from Ontario to Oceanside.
“We are proud to re-introduce the San Diego Clippers into this passionate sports market,” said Halo Sports and Entertainment CEO Gillian Zucker. “Our G League team is a critical part of our business and basketball operation, and we are thrilled to be relocating to the new Frontwave Arena next season.”
Frontwave Arena is expected to open in September 2024 with a capacity of 7,500 fans. In addition to the Clippers, the venue plans to hold entertainment and sporting events including concerts, comedy shows, community events and games for the San Diego Sockers professional indoor soccer team.
