SAN DIEGO — The San Diego State men's basketball team won its first-round game in the NCAA Tournament Friday, beating the University of Alabama at Birmingham, 69-65 in Spokane, Washington.
SDSU, the #5 seed in the East Region, will play Yale on Sunday at 6:40 p.m. (PT) also in Spokane.
The 13th-seeded Bulldogs scored a huge upset over fourth-seeded Auburn, 78-76, on Friday to move on to the second round.

Aztecs defeat UAB in first round
The Aztecs took care of business in the first round of March Madness on Friday morning, beating UAB, 69-65. San Diego State's top scorer all year came through again as Jaedon LeDee scored a game-high 32 points including some clutch free throws and rebounds down the stretch. Lamont Butler added 15 points as the only other Aztec in double-digit scoring. UAB was led with 19 points by Efrem Johnso in the loss.
The Aztecs edged out the Blazers in almost all statistical categories including field goal percentage (43.6% to 37.7%), rebounds (31-22) and steals (11-7) yet the game remained close for the final 5 minutes until LeDee and Butler hit clutch shots and free throws.
