San Diego bars where Kansas City Chiefs fans can watch the Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will battle it out in the Super Bowl on February 11 in Las Vegas. It airs February 11 on CBS 8.

SAN DIEGO — Super Bowl LVIII is less than two weeks away.

If you haven't made plans yet, we have some suggestions for where Kansas City Chiefs fans — and Taylor Swift fans — can watch the big game. There are lots of places to watch the Super Bowl, but if you're a super fan of either team in it, you want to be with your people.

Kansas City Barbeque near Seaport Village

One of those places in Kansas City Barbeque, across from Seaport Village at 600 W Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101.

Years before the original Top Gun was filmed at Kansas City Barbeque, it was known as a place for people to enjoy good food, as well as a Chiefs game.

“We are the number one Chiefs bar in San Diego, no doubt about it,” said Mitch Mcinerney.

Mcinerney’s aunt and uncle are both from Kansas City and wanted to bring a piece of their hometown to San Diego.

So, they opened Kansas City Barbecue in 1983.

 In 1985, Hollywood came calling.

“Back in 1985, the producers of the movie ‘Top Gun’ were just walking by and filming some scenes nearby, stopped in here and said hey this is a cool little bar do you mind shutting down for a day or two while we film there? And the owners said, well that's fine. We'll let this little movie film here. The rest is history,” said Mcinerney.

All around you'll see Top Gun memorabilia.

Alongside it, the Chiefs.

During football season, Mcinerney says the atmosphere is electric, and Super Bowl will be no different.

“TV’s inside, outside, we're gonna have giveaways and specials all day.  We're gonna have food flowing, beer flowing. It's gonna be a raucous party from start to finish,” said Mcinerney.

Home and Away in Old Town

Not to be outshined, is Home and Away in Old Town at 2222 San Diego Avenue, San Diego, CA 92110.

People at Home and Away argue it’s the best Chiefs bar in San Diego.

“We love the Kansas City Chiefs. They've been a great home for us here. The fans are incredible,” said owner Jonny Frank.

Unlike Kansas City Barbecue, Home and Away didn't start as a Chiefs bar.

In fact, it used to be a Chargers bar until 2017 when they moved away.

“When Spanos moved the team to LA, LA is my least favorite place ever, we openly decided to come up with a new team,” said Frank.

Since then, the Chiefs kingdom here has grown.

On Super Bowl Sunday, you can expect big crowds - so big, the bar is taking over the parking lot out front to accommodate more people.

“All hands on deck.  The staff is here for the day,” said Frank.

Both bars advise people to arrive early, and regardless of whether you're a Chiefs fan or not,  be prepared for a good time.

“If you've been to Kansas City, it's an amazing place and we're glad we have a home for everybody here,” said Frank.

"Come early, stay late. We're gonna have champagne at the end of the game cuz we're gonna be celebrating another Super Bowl,” said  Mcinerney.
