SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/AP) - No. 22 San Diego State is ranked for the first time since 1995 in AP's Top 25 Poll.
The Aztecs came off a 42 to 28 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday behind all-time rushing leader Donnel Pumphrey and quarterback Christian Chapman.
Pumphrey ran for three touchdowns and finished with 220 yards rushing in the game. Chapman threw for three touchdowns in the game.
Last week, Pumphrey ran for three touchdowns and a career-high 281 yards in the Aztecs' 45-40 win over Cal, becoming San Diego State's all-time rushing leader.
The Aztecs are 3 and 0 for the season.
According to the AP, the top 25 college football teams are determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best. The Associated Press began its college football poll 80 years ago in 1936. It's now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season.
