Meet two new San Diego FC players from the Danish national team

Players talk about coming to San Diego and how MLS continues to grow in stature amongst other premier leagues in Europe

SAN DIEGO — San Diego's Major League Soccer team continues to take shape as it rolls towards its debut early in 2025.

CBS 8's John Howard sat down with San Diego FC's Marcus Ingvartsen (pronounced eeng VART' sen) and Jeppe Tverskov (YEH'peh  tih VER' skoff). who were teammates on the Danish national team last year. This winter they will be teammates again on the inaugural San Diego Football Club in Major League Soccer.

John: How excited are you to still be teammates coming to San Diego?

Jeppe: I think it's perfect for us, also off the pitch. Of course, our wives and girlfriends know each other very well. We have kids of similar age, so everything is quite perfect for us.

Marcus:  In that order, the ambitions the club has, the way they want to do things, and everything. It's gonna be amazing to be a part of.

John: How is Major League Soccer revered by players in the other international leagues?

Jeppe: The last couple of years, it's been more like if you only saw clips on social media from the top European teams. Now you also see from the MLS teams. So it's getting much bigger.

Marcus: Also in Europe, more and more people are looking to come here now, also to be a part of their career path. That's something that changed a lot during the last couple of years, and also the way the media in Europe are talking more and more about it. It's going to be a bigger, bigger part about and in the media.

Jeppe: In Europe, of course, we have, the Big Five.  The Big Five leagues and a lot of hype also talking about this gonna be the big six with MLS.  So that's real. There is more hype about it.

John: What is the attraction for these other players to MLS?

Marcus:  The structure of the league is very different from Europe, and that's also something that's very interesting.  The spectators, the life of the pitch also is appealing to a lot of players. So I think it's the whole package.

Jeppe:  Hopefully San Diego is gonna be a part of bringing it even more hype. We hope so. \

John: I know you don't know who your team is yet, and the team hasn't been totally formed. How confident are you that this organization is going to draw a bunch of good players and have success in the league, or is it going to be a slower process to develop the program?

Jeppe: I think definitely we're going to be competitive from the from the get-go. That's the ambition, the way we want to play. And we come from a club, that plays in a way that we kind of want to bring here. I think it's going to be a competitive advantage for us, which is gonna make us compete from the very beginning.

John:  Final question, which is impossible to answer, but I'll go ahead and ask it. I want a prediction.  In the first San Diego FC versus LA Galaxy match, who's going to win and what's the final score going to be?

Marcus:  We are going to win, and it's going to be a solid 3-1 win.

John: Three to one!  Sweet.  Jeppe, how about you?

Jeppe: Yeah, I'll take that one.

John:  Guys, thank you so much for joining us. We really appreciate it.  Welcome to San Diego, and we look forward to following you.

Marcus and Jeppe: Thank you. Thank you.
