SAN DIEGO — News 8 received an exclusive look at special technology used by San Diego Fire-Rescue recently used during a massive salvage yard fire last week in Otay Mesa.
The technology is called "Unmanned Air Systems" or UAS, and it gives firefighters an aerial view of what they are up against. San Diego Fire-Rescue was able to purchase two UAS's with federal grant money.
Captain Jeff Ring said UAS's gives them an overall picture of what they are up against.
"We are truly seeing where the hot spots are," he said.
News 8's Kelly Hessedal shows us how the technology works and why it is so important to the department.
