SAN DIEGO — In America’s Finest City where unique rides are a dime a dozen, Alex Schamonin stands out with his Tesla Cybertruck.
"The best reaction I've received is 'did you build it yourself? Is it shipped from outer space? Is it a space vehicle?'" Schamonion laughs.
Cruising through the streets, his futuristic vehicle has become an instant head-turner, drawing admiration and curiosity from onlookers wherever it goes.
"Holy smokes! It is mind blowing. Seeing it in person for the first time. I don't remember ever feeling a rush like this! It is unbelievable looking at it," said Nick Morgan, onlooker.
"I've never seen something like this," said little boys passing by.
More of these Cybertrucks are being spotted in Southern California but they’re still hard to get. Millions are on the waitlist.
Schamonion just got his two weeks ago after placing his order online four years ago since Tesla does not have a dealership. He drove it for the first time when he picked it up.
"It was a total shot in the dark, sight unseen," he said.
It cost him around $100,000.
"I shed a tear when I picked it up, it made me cry," said Schamonion.
While the Cybertruck gets some mixed reviews, Schmanion is proud to lead the charge in a San Diego electric revolution.
"It doesn’t look like a car. It’s the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. It's like if you were trying to draw a car, but you're just not good at drawing," said another onlooker.
"My husband loves the Tesla Cybertruck! He's going to be so jealous we saw it while he was at home," said another woman who stopped to take a photo with her daughter.
"It's definitely worth it!" said Schmanion.
