City of San Diego launches new cyber lab

Small business owners, non-profits, academia can get free cybersecurity training.

SAN DIEGO — In an effort to help small businesses and public agencies ward off cyber attacks, the City of San Diego launched a new regional cyber lab Tuesday.

The $928,000 cyber lab was paid for with two grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

CBS 8 took a tour of the new lab Tuesday morning.

While large companies often have large IT departments to deal with cyber threats, many smaller companies, non-profits and schools need help.

The new lab has several tools to teach people how to protect their workplaces.

It's not an IT help desk, rather it's a place an IT person from one of these smaller companies can go, get cybersecurity training, and bring that knowledge back to their employer.

The services are free.
