DEL MAR, Calif. — He was still learning how to operate the camera on his new drone when Alex spotted three great whites off Torrey Pines beach in San Diego earlier this month. He was amazed at how close the sharks were to shore, saying there were surfers farther from the beach than the sharks.
So he thought he'd try his luck again. This time launching his drone off the coast of Del Mar.
He held the controls and held his breath as this time he spotted a great white within the surf line headed right for two surfers. The animal was bigger than the surfboards and the surfers likely didn't even realize he was there. The shark veered off at the last second.
