Day before Thanksgiving to be one of heaviest for airport traffic in San Diego

The airport recommends you give yourself at least 2 hours at the airport before takeoff.

SAN DIEGO — News 8 is keeping a close eye on storms brewing across the country and how that impacts flights to and from San Diego.

So far, flights from the Midwest, East Coast, and even the Northwest have been impacted by weather. That includes major delays coming out of Portland.

If you are flying out of San Diego on Wednesday or leaving on Thanksgiving, don’t wait to get to the airport. The airport recommends you give yourself at least 2 hours at the airport before takeoff.

You are also encouraged to keep an eye on weather in your destination or connection cities. That could impact your trip as well, not just the weather here.

If you are picking up family that is inbound, check their flight status as well online or by calling the airline.

The airport is expecting to see heavy traffic in the pick-up and drop off areas, so if you know the flight is delayed you are asked not to circle the area, but instead use the cell phone waiting lots.
