SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Surf is up! A moderate swell generated by Tropical Storm Sergio will bring increasing surf to Orange and San Diego County beaches.
A beach hazards statement is in effect for San Diego County beaches through 11 PM Friday. High surf 5-8 ft with sets to 10 ft possible, highest surf Wednesday through Friday. Strong rip currents and high surf will create dangerous swimming conditions.
Surf is expected to be three to six feet through San Diego beaches with sets up to seven feet north of Carlsbad.
The public should obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming.
Sergio's forecast track takes it a little more south than Rosa, most likely landfall near central of the Baja Peninsula, continuing onto Arizona and New Mexico. Sergio will have minimal impacts on San Diego County aside from rough sea conditions.
