SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — People across San Diego County received a false ShakeReadySD earthquake alert on Friday afternoon.
The testing error alert was received at approximately 1:46 p.m. on Friday. The County issued a subsequent alert apologizing for the error and notified the public of no further action at 1:53 p.m.
CBS 8 has learned from the County of San Diego that the test was originally supposed to go out to two phones, but a system error sent the alert to a larger number of phones.
The alert reported incorrectly reported a powerful earthquake but was not recorded by USGS and the county later confirmed it was a false alert.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
