SAN DIEGO COUNTY, California — It was a wet week to start February 2024 in San Diego as a winter storm dropped consistent rain and snow across the county for several days in a row. This storm followed a near record-setting storm that hit San Diego at the end of January dropping 2.73" of rain in a single day on January 22, the 4th wettest day on record. That storm brought massive flooding across the region and caused the county and city to declare a state of emergency.
The amount of rain that fell was above normal levels based on historical data. The storm tapped into some subtropical moisture bringing an atmospheric river, or a "Pineapple Express" that affected most of California. North County saw the most and as it descended south, it had less saturated air to tap into so it dropped less rain on the South County.
