Streets flood in Mission Beach Thursday thanks to heavy rain

Since the sidewalks flooded, some people had to get creative.

SAN DIEGO —

Getting around Mission Beach was no easy task on Thursday. Streets flooded in the San Diego neighborhood thanks to rainfall. People who live in the area say this happens often when it rains. However, that doesn’t make the forecast any more convenient.

Anthony Meyers and Kara Fishbough had to get creative on their walk to the market.

“When you don't want to get your shoes wet, you climb on anything to stay dry," said Meyers.

THURSDAY'S WILD WEATHER: Winter storm brings rain, snow to San Diego County

Sandbags couldn’t stop some businesses from flooding. Realtor Bob Ruane said he took extra measures to stay dry, including building barricades in front of his office and the one next door.

“You take the means to fix it and you prepare,” said Ruane.

He also used his feet to clear away leaves clogging a storm drain.

“I cleared it out and this water will be gone in half an hour,” said Ruane.

Pumps were ready to go in the areas most prone to flooding. Water that flooded the streets and ally ways was funneled out to the bay.

Believe it or not, people visiting from colder places still felt optimistic.

"I'll take this over Minneapolis any day,” said one visitor. “It's about 30 degrees and snowy there. This is just rain."

As of Thursday night, water levels had gone down noticeably in the streets.
