MLB moves Padres vs. Diamondbacks Sunday game in anticipation of Hilary

The San Diego Padres will now take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a split doubleheader on Saturday Aug. 19 with the first game beginning at 12:10 p.m.

SAN DIEGO — Major League Baseball has announced the rescheduling of Sunday’s Padres game at Petco Park in anticipation of the impact of Hurricane Hilary. The San Diego Padres will now take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a split doubleheader on Saturday Aug. 19 beginning at 12:10 p.m., with the originally scheduled game still set for 5:40 pm.

The Padres said tickets for Sunday’s game are valid for the newly scheduled game on Saturday starting at 12:10 p.m. Tickets for the originally scheduled 5:40 p.m. game are unaffected.

Petco Park gates will open at 10:30 a.m. for the first game beginning at 12:10 p.m. Gates for the second game will open at around 4:00 p.m. Fans with tickets to both games will be asked to exit Petco Park and reenter for the evening game.

Hurricane Hilary Friday developed into a powerful Category 4 storm off Mexico’s Pacific Coast, forcing the National Hurricane Center to issue the first Tropical Storm Warning for Southern California in history.

And while Hilary is expected to strengthen for most of Friday, forecasters say it will begin to lose strength as it hits the cold currents in Northern Baja and off of Southern California. The storm is expected to lose even more power when it makes landfall.

As of Friday at 8 am PST, forecasters have issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Southern California. That, however, may change depending on the path the storm takes.
