SAN DIEGO — The Fire Weather Watch that was announced Monday was upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for parts of the San Diego region.
Areas under a Red Flag Warning in San Diego County include: San Diego mountains, including the Palomar, Descanso, and the Ranger Districts of the Cleveland National Forest.
The Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 5 a.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Friday.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.
A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
A Heat Advisory was also issued for a portion of San Diego County.
Winds are expected to be 25 to 35 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH. In some San Diego County mountains, isolated gusts are expected to reach 60 mph.
Winds are expected to develop late Wednesday night, and then strengthen and become more widespread Thursday morning with the humidity decreasing through the morning to five to ten percent by early Thursday afternoon.
San Diego County residents can expect the very low humidity to continue into Saturday, but with weaker and less widespread winds. There will be greater humidity recovery Sunday as onshore flow strengthens and spreads cooling inland.
Due to conditions which could rapidly help spread and fire that may erupt, active burning through the night due to gusty winds and extremely dry conditions is not recommended.
