SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Light rain splashed the San Diego area Tuesday as the first of a pair of cool autumn storms moved over the region.
The wet cloud banks out of the Gulf of Alaska dropped a few hundredths of an inch of moisture in most local communities during the morning and afternoon, and were moving out of the county to the east by early evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The highest precipitation total by 5 p.m. -- 0.16 of an inch -- was recorded in Julian, NWS meteorologist Noel Isla said.
But a stronger storm system out of the northwest is expected to reach the county Wednesday afternoon and deliver anywhere from three-tenths of an inch of moisture in coastal locales to 2 inches in the East County mountains over the following 24 hours or so.
The showers should diminish significantly toward midday Thursday and peter out completely by that evening, according to Isla.
Friday will usher in sunny skies and more seasonable early autumn temperatures, according to the weather service.
