CAMP PENDLETON SOUTH, Calif. — Camp Pendleton officials confirmed to CBS 8 that Lance Corporal Bailey Cameron is no longer considered a missing person and has been located.
"This morning, law enforcement officials apprehended Bailey Cameron. He was located and detained by the Provost Marshall’s Office aboard Camp Pendleton. His parents have been notified of his current situation," Capt James C. Sartain, Operations Officer, Communication Strategy and Operations with Camp Pendleton told CBS 8 in a statement. "We request that everyone respects the privacy of Bailey Cameron and his family. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to process this matter in accordance with established military procedures and law."

The family of a missing Camp Pendleton Marine had been searching for answers as to the whereabouts of their son, Lance Corporal Bailey Cameron since he had been last seen on base by a fellow Marine in late August , but when he realized military police were on the way, he fled on foot.
“I spoke to that Marine directly, and he did share with me that Bailey appeared to be in distress. He was clearly in distress,” said Sharie Finn, founder of the RAD Movement, a nonprofit that helps families find missing loved ones. “Where he fled to was still on the base, so they brought out the thermals and brought out the dogs for about two hours and could not locate him and that’s when it stopped.”
Cameron’s family flew in from Washington State and has been on the ground posting flyers and searching for any sign of their son's whereabouts.
“As any parent that you would expect would be handling it," said Finn. "They’re not eating, they’re not drinking, they’re struggling.”
Cameron has been missing since Aug. 25. CBS 8 obtained surveillance video of him leaving the Coyote Bar in Carlsbad the night before. Some of his belongings were found in the vicinity of downtown Carlsbad the next day.
“His backpack was left at one of the establishments with his eyeglasses and his telephone, so he does not have his eyeglasses right now, and he cannot see very well without his glasses,” said Finn.
Cameron is an active-duty Marine, who was scheduled to exit the Corps on Sept. 9 after 5 years of service. Finn visited his barracks Monday to talk with some of his fellow Marines.
“When he interacted with that individual the other night, his fellow Marine, he indicated he asked him at that time, ‘Where have you been?’ He said, ‘I’ve been on base,’” said Finn.
His ATM card has been used on base as recently as a couple days ago. Carlsbad Police, the Marine Corps, and NCIS are all working together on this case, but Finn would like to see a little more cooperation with Cameron’s family.
“This is somebody’s child, this is an active-duty Marine who served our country well for five years, and deserves respect and compassion,” said Finn.
CBS 8 reached out to Camp Pendleton for more information on the recent sighting and latest search efforts, but we have not received any new comment as of the time of this publication.
On Thursday, August 29, Captain James C. Sartain told CBS 8, "Efforts are underway with local commands to contact and locate the Marine. Additionally, notifications have been passed to local police departments, hospitals, and NCIS."
Cameron is described as 6'1" tall and weighing 190 pounds.
