SAN DIEGO — A brush fire that broke out in the city of San Diego on Wednesday afternoon has been ruled as arson by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department's Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST). The blaze ignited in the 3200 block of 42nd Street in City Heights. SDFD estimated the blaze about one acre in size and it took crews about 30 minutes to knock it down.
According to an SDFD spokesperson, MAST investigators said a reporting party saw juveniles in the canyon before the fire started. The investigation will continue with members of the San Diego Police Department and MAST, according to officials.
San Diego Fire tweeted that the forward rate of spread had been stopped around 1:50 p.m.
Crews will remain on scene to make sure hot spots do not flare up.
According to SDFD, the San Diego Police Department did some precautionary evacuations before fire crews arrived.
The fire was first reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
No injuries or damage to structures was reported.
The fire started just under three miles away from a fire that broke out in the Talmadge area on Tuesday.
