SAN DIEGO — Watch live coverage of the San Diego Veterans Day Parade from Harbor Drive along the San Diego Bay. The parade will be live streamed on CBS8+.
The San Diego Veterans Day Parade has been around for more than three decades. Its a day when the community unites to pay their respects to those who have served in the military.
“I mean they truly are American heroes, they are the patriots that have really guaranteed our freedoms,” San Diego Veterans Day Parade Chair David Koontz said.
This year, there’s a tribute to the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II, and two D-Day veterans will be in attendance.
“I’m really hoping that all of the folks that come down to Harbor Drive tomorrow to watch the parade really take something away from seeing these two veterans who are part of the great generation of the United States,” Koontz said.
In North County, the fifth annual Escondido Veterans Day Parade is taking a new route due to construction at its usual location.
“This year, the parade route is longer, and the good news is we have more parade participants this year than we did last year,” Escondido Veterans Day Parade Co-Chair Stef Holden said.
The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on Woodward Avenue near Grape Day Park. After the parade, VetFest will begin at 12 p.m. at American Legion Post 149 on East Park Avenue. The event will feature music, entertainment and food vendors.
“The post-parade ceremony actually turns into a very celebratory atmosphere,” Holden said.
