Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in Mira Mesa

The driver remained at the scene, and authorities do not suspect that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while driving.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — An 86-year-old man who was walking in a crosswalk against a red light was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday night in the Mira Mesa.

The San Diego Police Department received a call about the collision in the 7500 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard near Aderman Avenue at 6:51 p.m., according to Officer Robert Heims.

A 52-year-old woman was driving westbound on Mira Mesa Boulevard in a 2009 Lexus sedan and struck the pedestrian in the boulevard's second lane. She remained at the scene, and authorities do not suspect that she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while driving, Heims said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver did not suffer any injuries, Heims said.
