OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Oceanside Police have arrested two suspects accused of attacking multiple victims with baseball bats near Oceanside Harbor in August.
Detectives with the Oceanside Police Department arrested Jorge L. Perez of Vista and Pablo F. Gonzalez of Oceanside on Tuesday in connection with the bat attacks. Both men were taken into custody and booked into Vista Detention Facility.
Both suspects will be arraigned on Thursday in Vista.
According to Oceanside Police, gang detectives determined that five people were identified as suspects in the bat attacks committed near the harbor on Aug. 17. Oceanside police said they believe the attacks were a “gang-motivated crime.”
Following the alleged attacks on Aug. 17, witnesses described individuals with bandanas covering their faces attacking several men with bats.
A short time after receiving the assault report, the Oceanside Police Department said it received information about two people who were being treated for similar injuries at Tri-City Medical Center. Though unrelated to the other victims, they were assaulted in the same area and manner, apparently by the same attackers, police said.
All of the victims suffered significant injuries, including head lacerations, and one was left with a facial fracture, according to an OPD statement.
Oceanside Police is still searching for the three remaining suspects. Oceanside Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to please contact the Gang Crimes Unit at (760) 435-4264.
