SAN DIEGO — San Diego Pride has named two interim executive directors to lead the organization after the abrupt resignation of its former leader Fernando Lopez, Jr.
The nonprofit named Sarafina Scapicchio and Jen LaBarbera as San Diego Pride’s new interim co-executive directors.
“Sarafina and Jen will jointly lead San Diego Pride during this interim period, each bringing unique strengths to the table,” San Diego Pride said in a statement. “This collaborative approach ensures a seamless transition, reflecting San Diego Pride's commitment to continuity and elevating the talents within the organization.”
The two co-executive directors will head the organization as it searches for its next permanent leader.
"The board is currently vetting a number of executive recruitment firms who have expertise both with nonprofit leadership as well as working with LGBTQ organizations to assist us in the search," a San Diego Pride board member told CBS 8.
Lopez abruptly resigned as executive director on Nov. 20, in a post to social media that was later confirmed by San Diego Pride.
The circumstances regarding Lopez’s resignation are still unknown.
Scapicchio has been with San Diego Pride since 2015, serving recently as deputy executive director. LaBarbera has been with the organization since 2018, serving as director of education and advocacy.
